BROOKS, AB - Brooks Bandits defenceman Luke Bast (Red Deer, AB) has been named to NHL Central Scouting’s Players to Watch List for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, it was announced today.

Bast, 17, was rated as a “C” prospect, indicating a likely 4th/5th/6th round selection. He was one of only two players in the AJHL listed.

The 5’9”, 170lb defenceman was named to the AJHL’s All-Rookie Team for the South division last season after scoring 31 points (8 goals, 23 assists) in 57 regular season games in his first full Junior A campaign, adding a team-leading 13 playoff points (1 goal, 12 assists) in 15 postseason appearances.

So far this season, Bast has recorded 7 points (2 goals, 5 assists) in 7 games, ranking as the 3rd-highest scoring defenceman in the AJHL.

Bast and the Bandits are back in action on Saturday night in Canmore taking on the Eagles in search of a seventh consecutive win, before returning home Monday, October 8th at 4:00 PM for a special Thanksgiving Day game against the Okotoks Oilers.
