18 AJHL Alumni on 2022-23 NHL Rosters

As the 2022-23 NHL Season begins, 18 former Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) players are currently listed on opening season rosters.

The list of AJHL alumni includes St Louis Blues defenecman Colton Parayko (Fort McMurray Oil Barons) who last night celebrated his 500th NHL game.  Brooks Bandits alumnus Cale Makar of he Colorado Avalanche had a historic 2021-22 season. He won the Norris Trophy, voted to the best defenseman in the NHL, and his 28 goals led all NHL defencemen and set an Avalanche/Quebec Nordiques record, as did his 86 points. He followed that up by helping the Avalanche win the 2022 Stanley Cup and was named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the MVP of the playoffs. He became the first player to win the Hobey Baker, Norris Trophy and Conn Smythe in his career.

The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) has an alumnus on 26 of 32 NHL rosters and each of its nine member leagues has representation from at least one former CJHL player.
