2023 AJHL SHOWCASE AWARDED TO CALGARY CANUCKS

The Alberta Junior Hockey League (the “AJHL”) has awarded the Calgary Canucks Junior A Hockey Club (the “Canucks”) the right to host the 2023 AJHL Showcase at the Max Bell Centre in September 2023.

The city of Calgary has a rich history of hosting the world’s top events.  With an abundance of hotel options, an international airport to make travel easy for scouts and families, and never-ending attractions away from the rink, Calgary is the perfect city to host the AJHL Showcase and offer an incredible experience for athletes, scouts, and families.

“The Calgary Canucks Junior A Hockey organization is honoured to be chosen as the host city for the 2023 AJHL Showcase.  The city of Calgary has a deep history of hosting successful major events.   As the host city, Calgary offers AJHL players participating in the Showcase the maximum player exposure to scouts, given its accessibility and amenities.  Numerous NCAA schools and an NHL team offered letters of endorsement for the Canucks bid as it is the best destination for their scouts to attend games.  We are excited about working with these leagues well into the future for the benefit of our players.  We look forward to providing an unforgettable experience for all players, coaches, scouts, family members and fans,” General Manager and Head Coach Brad Moran.

The home of the Canucks is the newly renovated Max Bell Centre.  The centrally located facility regularly hosts significant hockey events like the historical Circle K Classic (formerly the Mac’s tournament) and holds all the amenities to host scouts, teams and fans successfully.

Founded in 1971, the Calgary Canucks are the second-oldest operating franchise in the AJHL.  The franchise has experienced a rich and successful history, including 11 regular season titles, nine AJHL championships, two Doyle Cup titles and one Centennial Cup National Junior A Championship.

Each AJHL team will compete in two regular season games at the 17th annual Showcase, which attracts fans from across Alberta and over 150 members of the scouting community.  The annual Showcase of AJHL talent draws coaches and scouts from each National Hockey League team, NCAA Division I, II and III schools, Canadian colleges and universities and the Canadian Hockey League.

The announcement of the full schedule for the 2023 AJHL Showcase will follow alongside the complete AJHL schedule in June 2023.  Tickets, sponsorship opportunities and volunteer requests will be available shortly.
