384 AJHL Alumni Competing on College and University Rosters in 2016-2017 Season

The Alberta Junior Hockey League is proud to announce that an all-time high of 384 AJHL Alumni are currently competing on College and University teams across North America.  The AJHL reached the 300 mark in the 2010-2011 season and has continued to surpass the milestone each season.

The majority of AJHL alumni are competing on NCAA Division I teams with 130 players on 47 rosters.  Three rosters boast 7 alumni – the University of Alaska Anchorage, University of Alaska Fairbanks and Arizona State University.  Three current AJHL players have already committed to Arizona State University for the 2017 season and beyond.  The 2016 NCAA Division I Frozen Four Championship included 6 AJHL alumni on the rosters of 3 teams.

A total of 62 alumni are participating on NCAA Division III teams.  Marian University leads the way with 9 former AJHL players on the roster.  In 2016, 3 alumni won the NCAA Division III crown with the University of Wisconsin Stevens-Point, which also has 3 AJHLers on the 2016-2017 roster.

A record setting 88 AJHL alumni are currently competing in the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport).  The University of Alberta holds 12 AJHL players, while the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University have each kept 10 players in Alberta on their respective rosters.  The BC Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) is also home to 8 AJHL alumni this season.

The CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) is home to 96 former AJHL players who have gone on to pursue their education and hockey careers within Canada.  The rosters of NAIT and Grant MacEwan University each include 20 AJHL players.  The NAIT Ooks won the ACAC Title in 2016 with 14 AJHL alumni on their roster and went undefeated in a remarkable season for the record books.

By choosing to play in the Alberta Junior Hockey League a player is joining a fraternity of storied athletes through over 50 years of athletic and academic excellence.  A total of 27 current AJHL players have already committed to continuing their hockey carers and educational pursuits by committing to a College or University.
