Aiden Yakimchuk Awarded Inter Pipeline AJHL Scholarship

Drumheller Dragon alumnus, Aiden Yakimchuk, is the recipient of the 2021 Inter Pipeline AJHL Scholarship.   The St Albert, AB defenceman is committed to attend and play for Lindenwood University of the NCAA for the 2021-22 season.

The Inter Pipeline AJHL Scholarship Program rewards one current AJHL player with a scholarship towards their post-secondary education at the conclusion of each season.   The scholarship is awarded to the player deemed most deserving among the applicants (one per AJHL team) based on their proven qualities in the areas of leadership, sportsmanship, dedication and citizenship.

“This scholarship program is an important part of Inter Pipeline’s commitment to the communities where we live, work and operate, and a long-standing relationship that Inter Pipeline is proud to support” said Anita Dusevic-Oliva, Senior Vice President, Corporate Services at Inter Pipeline. “Congratulations to Aiden Yakimchuk, and all the AJHL athletes who display incredible teamwork and pursue excellence as they chase their dreams both on and off the ice.”

Dragons General Manager / Head Coach Kevin Hasselberg is proud of the leader Aiden has become.   “Over four years of development, watching Aiden mature, transform his skills, strengthen his character, and transition into adulthood has been rewarding and unique due to the challenges that existed over that time.”

“He is a player that leads by example on and off the ice taking on responsibilities that extend far beyond the hockey rink. Over his three seasons in Drumheller, Aiden volunteered countless hours in the community working with a variety of organizations, schools and community services. He was selected as a captain of the team in his final two years and has embraced the role with humility, commitment, pride, and accountability.”

“The future generations of students and athletes are fortunate to have someone of Aiden’s character to model over the past three years.   He has learned what it takes to be a leader with exceptional communication skills, courage, compassion, tremendous work ethic, and a unique quality to connect with his peers.”

“Aiden is truly a competitor and high-level performer. His punctuality, attention to detail, and level of preparation were characteristics never in question during his time with the Dragons. When tested, he stayed true to his values and made decisions that strengthened the team culture.   He was goal driven and highly motivated, which were key characteristics in his leadership abilities. All characteristics I believe would be assets in both academic and professional careers.   Aiden is deserving of this scholarship and an ambassador to what the scholarship represents.”
