AJHL Alumni Competing at Post-Secondary Level Hits 300

The Alberta Junior Hockey League is extremely proud to announce that for the first time in League history over 300 AJHL Alumni are currently competing on College and University teams across North America.

179 AJHL alumni are members of NCAA Division I and Division III rosters in the USA; 123 alumni are competing on Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and Alberta Colleges Athletic Association (ACAC) teams in Canada.

2010-2011 AJHL Alumni

AJHL President Craig T. Cripps credits the league coaches and team management for this milestone, “This is a true testament to our teams and the opportunities they provide our athletes both athletically and academically. The AJHL is committed to growing this success through events such as the AJHL Showcase, strategic recruitment and promotion of our players, and marketing of the League.”

Eleven players on the University of Alaska Fairbanks (NCAA) roster for 2010-2011 are alumni of the AJHL. UAF Assistant Coach Brian Meisner believes the AJHL develops the type of players that are a perfect fit for the Nanooks hockey program, “AJHL athletes are appealing to us as they come into the program ready to contribute and play at this level,” says Meisner.

Nearly 250 AJHL alumni competed on College and University teams across North America in the 2009-2010 season. During the 2009-2010 AJHL season, over 80 AJHL players committed to a College or University for the 2010-2011 season and beyond.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League recognizes each AJHL player who commits to a post-secondary institute on the League website; the current list includes 20 active AJHL players who have already committed to a University or College career.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League continues to be one of the premier developmental Leagues in Canada for student-athletes striving to capitalize on their athletic and academic abilities. By choosing to play in the Alberta Junior Hockey League a player is joining a fraternity of storied athletes through almost 50 years of athletic and academic excellence. Our student-athletes’ achievements both academically and athletically have been made possible through their choice to play junior hockey in the AJHL.
