The Alberta Junior Hockey League today announced the schedule for the 2014-2015 season, which will begin with a 45-game Exhibition Season on August 20th, 2014 The AJHL Regular Season will open on September 5th, 2014 and conclude after 480 games on February 28th, 2015.
The 2014 Exhibition Season will include mini tournaments hosted by the Camrose Kodiaks (August 25th-27th), Okotoks Oilers (August 28th-30th) and Calgary Canucks (August 29th-31st). The Kodiaks will host a second tournament from August 29th -31st, which will include the Denmark National Junior Team competing against three AJHL opponents. The unique international competition will be a thrilling close to the pre-season for the participating AJHL clubs and fans.
The Drumheller Dragons will continue their tradition with the Kindersley Clippers of the SJHL by hosting a pre-season game against the intra-league rival on September 2nd. Grande Prairie and Drayton Valley will bring the AJHL to High Level, Alberta with two consecutive Exhibition Games on August 29th and 30th.
The 2014-2015 AJHL Regular Season will consist of 16 teams playing 60 games apiece, including 16 games at the 2014 AJHL Showcase. The 8th Annual Surge Energy Inc. AJHL Showcase will return to the Tri Leisure Centre in Spruce Grove, Alberta from September 25th – 27th, 2014.
Three AJHL teams will host regular season games outside of their home communities this year. The Drumheller Dragons will host the Olds Grizzlys in their annual game in Hanna, Alberta on October 23rd, 2014. Canmore will take AJHL hockey to the town on Banff, Alberta on November 12th, 2014 when they host the Calgary Canucks. The Spruce Grove Saints will return to Stony Plain, Alberta in a match up against the Canmore Eagles to open the New Year on January 2nd, 2015.
The 2015 AJHL Gas Drive Playoffs will open on March 5th, 2015. The top team in each division will receive a first round bye. The South Division and North Division will playoff to determine a divisional champion at the conclusion of Round Three. The North Division Champion and the South Division Champion will then compete in the AJHL Gas Drive Cup Final.
Fort McMurray and the Alberta Junior Hockey League will host the 2015 Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup from April 25th – May 3rd, 2015. The 2015 RBC Cup National Junior A Championship will take place from May 9th – 17th, 2015 in Portage la Prairie, MB.
