BROOKS, AB (September 7, 2020) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are pleased to announce the hiring of Evan McFeeters as the team’s new Assistant Coach.
McFeeters joins the team after five seasons as the Assistant Coach/Assistant GM of the Canmore Eagles. He’ll join the Bandits coaching staff led by Head Coach & GM Ryan Papaioannou, and Assistant Coach Taylor Makin.
??I am really looking forward to taking on this new opportunity and joining the Bandits coaching staff,” said McFeeters.
“The vision that Ryan laid out to me through the process was very detailed, the organization is driven by setting and reaching new goals and that really motivates me.?
?There were certainly no easy nights coaching against them over the past five years, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with these players and the Bandits staff. I hope to add my experience, professionalism, and enthusiasm to the club and I am looking forward to building relationships with the players and with members of the community.?
Prior to joining the Eagles, McFeeters served as Head Coach of the Cochrane Generals of the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) for three seasons, leading the team to the 2016 League Finals.
The Canmore, AB native previously served as the Head Coach of the Bow Valley Timberwolves U18 AA program, before landing the job in Cochrane.
?With the abrupt end to last season and the uncertainty of what was to come this year, we wanted to remain engaged in all areas of our operation, looking for areas we could improve,” said Bandits Head Coach and GM Ryan Papaioannou.
“We were presented with a challenge to rebuild our coaching staff and with the addition of Taylor Makin and now Evan McFeeters we are extremely well positioned for the future. Evan brings AJHL experience to our program and notably South Division experience. Over the number of hours we spent together this off season it was clear Evan had skills that we could utilize in Brooks. He was very well reviewed by former players and really demonstrated a passion for making players better.”
McFeeters is a High Performance 1 certified coach and has created curriculums, and developed numerous camps, clinics, and programming throughout Western Canada.
The Bandits Main Camp begins Tuesday, September 8th at the Centennial Regional Arena.
