Bandits one win from franchise record streak after 7-0 win in Whitecourt

WHITECOURT, AB (January 26, 2019) – The Brooks Bandits (43-3) are one win away from tying their 2012 franchise record, after notching their 19th straight win Saturday night, shutting out the Whitecourt Wolverines 7-0 on the road.

The win also put Brooks just 3 wins away from clinching first place in the AJHL South division and a first round bye in the playoffs.

Brooks outshot the Wolverines 33-14, with Tanner Marshall (Kelowna, BC) pitching a 14-save shutout, his third shutout in only seven starts as a Bandit.

A back and forth first period saw the teams trade chances until Arnaud Vachon (Ajax, ON) jammed in a rebound goal on a power play with just 22 seconds left in the frame.

In the second, William Lemay (Marieville, QC) fired a wrist shot in through a screen on another Brooks power play to make it 2-0 at the 6:58 mark, while at 9:10 Ryan Mahshie (Stoney Creek, ON) tapped in a rebound goal for a 3-0 lead. Brandon Scanlin (Hamilton, ON) blasted in a slap shot goal on a power play at 15:05 to to extend the lead to 4-0.

Andrew Lucas (Alexandria, VA) opened the third period scoring at the 13:16 mark on a high slot wrister, before Scanlin scored his second of the game on a long wrist shot at 16:02 to make it 6-0 Brooks. Lemay one-timed home his second of the night at 18:26 on the power play on a cross-slot setup by Simon Boyko (Mississauga, ON) to cap off the scoring at 7-0.

The Bandits will attempt to tie their franchise record of 20 straight wins on Tuesday night when they travel to Canmore to take on the Eagles at 7 PM. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:45 PM on Real Country 105.7.
