BROOKS, AB (January 2, 2016) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) will host their first-ever Mental Health Night on Saturday, January 21st, 2017, the team announced today.
The team will wear special mental-health themed jerseys which will be auctioned off throughout the game, with all profits from the auction being donated to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Alberta Southeast Region.
The theme of the night will be “Break The Silence” as in addition to raising money, the team hopes to raise awareness and combat the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
To that end, the team will provide free green ribbons to all attendees at the game, in support of mental health programs, and encourages fans to wear green to the game. The team’s special jerseys will be green-themed as well.
The night is the Bandits’ annual Charity Jersey night, which last year raised more than $6,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and has also raised thousands for ALS and Breast Cancer research in the past.
The team's jerseys were once again designed by California-based designer Matthew McElroy of number9concepts.com, whose designs have included prior Bandits' charity jerseys as well as the team's current third jersey.
The game will feature the Bandits taking on the vastly improved Calgary Canucks, with puck drop at 7:00 PM at the Centennial Regional Arena.
