The Spruce Grove Saints are proud to announce that 20 year old forward Lukas Biensch, has committed to play for University of Alberta – Augustana (UAA) for the 2015-16 season. The UAA Vikings are a member of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC).
A three year veteran in the AJHL, Lukas spent the first 2.5 years with the Lloydminster Bobcats before joining the Saints. Lukas amassed 17 goals, 44 assists for 61 points in 120 regular season games.
“First of all, I’m very excited to join the University of Alberta – Augustana Viking. It is a prestigious program and is the best fit for my family and myself. I wouldn’t have this opportunity if it wasn’t for the tremendous support I’ve received over the years from my family, my billets, teammates, coaches, volunteers and fans” says Biensch.
“Thank you to the Lloydminster Bobcat organization for giving me a chance to play for my hometown. I’ll always remember my time as a Bobcat. I’d also like to thank the Spruce Grove Saints organization for giving me an amazing end to my junior career. It’s a truly first class organization and I’m honoured to have been a part of it. To my teammates, I want to thank you for always challenging me to grow as a player and person. The memories and friendships we’ve shared will last a life time. Lastly, I’d like to thank my family. My parents and brothers were always there for me over the years. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my family. I’m truly blessed, thank you”.
“Lukas was a veteran presence for us at the centre position, and was very reliable for us throughout our playoff run.” states Head Coach Jason McKee “Lukas plays his best hockey when it matters most and he will be a great contributing member of the UAA Vikings during his college career.”
The Saints organization would like to congratulate Lukas and his family on this step in his career, and wish him continued success moving forward, both athletically and academically.
Lukas is the 5th Saint player to commit to a post secondary institution this season.
