Devon Xtreme forward Kai Billey is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week with a four-point (3G, 1A) performance last week including a hat trick.
Billey (St Albert, AB) was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game on September 20th versus the Calgary Canucks after scoring three goals and adding an assist on the game winner. Billey is within the Top 10 AJHL Scoring Leaders with five points (3G, 2A) in his first four games of the season. The 2004-born forward has returned to the AJHL after a season in the CCHL.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Tyler Rowland of the Whitecourt Wolverines. The 2006-born defenceman recorded four points (4A) in two games played from September 16th-22nd, 2024.
On September 20th, the Wolverines rookie recorded two assists on home ice in a 7-4 loss to the Bonnyville Pontiacs. Rowland added two more assists versus the Devon Xtreme the following night, handing the Xtreme their first home loss of the season in a 4-0 final. Tyler has five points in four games played to start the 2024-25 campaign.
Grande Prairie Storm forward Max Algajer is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week. Algajer (2006) scored two goals and four points in two Storm victories over the weekend.
Algajer (Edmonton, AB) recorded a three-point game on September 20th with two goals, including a short-handed marker, and an assist in a 5-2 win over the visiting Olds Grizzlys. The Storm would shutout the Grizzlys in the second game of the double header with a 10-0 win and another assist for Algajer.
All 12 AJHL teams will travel to Calgary, AB for the 2024 AJHL Showcase starting Wednesday, September 25th through to Friday, September 27th. The 18th Annual AJHL Showcase will see each AJHL team compete in two regular season games. The three-day event draws coaches and scouts from the National Hockey League, NCAA, Canadian colleges and universities and the Canadian Hockey League.
