Bobcats Kobe Walker Commits to RIT

Bobcats leading scorer, 1998-born forward Kobe Walker, has committed to the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for the 2018-2019 season.

The commitment comes just days after Walker put up a hat-trick and an assist in a 4-1 victory over Sherwood Park, pushing his season point totals to 24 goals and 25 assists for 49 points in 46 games.

“It’s a pretty surreal feeling, to be honest,” said Walker. “Growing up, I was always the kid deemed too small to really make it anywhere so it feels really good to get this recognition. I want to thank RIT for showing their support in me, and I want to thank my entire family and support circle too. Without them, none of this would be possible. First things first though, I want to finish strong with the Bobcats and do everything I can to help extend this season as long as possible.”

Walker is in his second season with the Junior ‘A’ Bobcats. He posted 17 goals and 23 assists in his rookie campaign last year.

“Kobe is a special talent,” said Bobcats Head Coach and GM Travis Clayton. “It’s obvious he is fully capable of putting up points, but beyond that, it’s his ability to create opportunities when the team is in need. He also is a great kid to have around the team, and gives a full effort night in and night out.”

Walker is now the second current player on the Bobcats with a college scholarship. Lloydminster’s Daniel Hilsendager is committed to Western Michigan.

The Bobcats resume their schedule tonight with a trip to Drayton Valley, before returning to the Civic Centre on Saturday to host the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
