The Spruce Grove Saints Jr. ’A’ Hockey Club is proud to announce that 20 year old Assistant Captain Brett Smythe (St. Albert, AB) has committed to play for the Grant MacEwan Griffins of the ACAC (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference) for the upcoming 2017-2018 season.
Brett’s impressive AJHL career began as a Saints affiliate player in 2012-2013 followed by stops in Drayton Valley (AJHL North All-Rookie team '13/'14) and Lloydminster (losing in the RBC final in '15/'16) before returning to the Saints for his final season in 2016-2017. Upon his return to the Saints, Brett posted a career year with 23 goals, 24 assists for a total of 47 points in 51 games placing 2nd in team scoring. Brett finishes his AJHL career amassing a total of 216 regular season games played with 62 goals, 94 assists, 156 points and 128 pims accompanied by 17 points in 25 post-season contests.
Saints Head Coach/GM Mike Ringrose stated, “Brett stepped into our program this past season and immediately assumed a leadership role on and off the ice. MacEwan is adding an exceptional player with incredible character. The Saints would like to congratulate Brett and his family, and wish him the best during this next step in his hockey career.”
