Brooks Bandits Advance to 2013 RBC Cup

The Brooks Bandits have advanced to the RBC Cup National Junior A Championship for the first time in franchise history.  The Bandits earned the right to represent the West at the National Championship after defeating the Yorkton Terriers of the SJHL 1-0 at the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup on Sunday.

AJHL Commissioner Ryan Bartoshyk presented Mark Logan of the Brooks Bandits with the Player of the Game Award.  Devon McMullen of the Yorkton Terriers was awarded the Player of the Game from SJHL President Bill Chow.

Game Summary

The Surrey Eagles of the BCHL captured the inaugural Western Canada Cup with a victory over Brooks on Saturday night, giving the Bandits one last chance to earn an RBC Cup berth in the final game of the tournament on Sunday.

The Bandits were ranked the #1 team in the CJHL for 21 consecutive weeks, dating back to October 2012.  Brooks captured the Gas Drive Cup as the AJHL Champion to advance to the regional tournament.  The Brooks Bandits finished the round-robin segment of the Crescent Point Energy western Canada Cup in top spot with a record of 3-1.

Five teams will compete in the 2013 RBC Cup National Junior A Championship, including the Surrey Eagles (Western Canada Cup Champions), Brooks Bandits (Western Canada Cup Runner Up), Minnesota Wilderness (Dudley Hewitt Cup Champions), Truro Bearcats (Fred Page Cup Champions) and Summerside Western Capitals (Host).  The 2013 RBC Cup will be held in Summerside, PEI from May 11-19, 2013.
