BROWN, BLACK AND MARLEY NAMED AJHL WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS

The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for February 10th-16th, 2025 is Drayton Valley Thunder Captain Cooper Brown. With nine points (5G, 4A) in two victories, Brown led the league in scoring and helped to extend a four-game win streak for the Thunder.

Cooper Brown (Airdrie, AB) recorded a career-high four-point game with a hat trick and an assist on February 14th versus the Devon Xtreme. The Thunder forward was selected as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game in the 9-3 win. Brown stepped up his game with a new career-high five-point game the following night in another 9-3 decision over the Xtreme with two goals and three assists.

Brown (2004) is in his third season with the Thunder and sits 10th in the AJHL Scoring Race with 43 points (22G, 21A).  He is committed to Concordia University-Wisconsin of the NCAA.

Teammate Luke Marley is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week with five points (1G, 4A) over two games and a three-game point streak.  Marley notched an assist on Valentine’s Day before recording a season-high four-point game with a goal and three assists the following night.

Marley (2005) is currently third in team scoring with 28 points (11G, 17A) in 44 games.  The Thunder are chasing the final playoff spot in the Viterra AJHL South Division with 10 regular season games remaining.

Canmore Eagles defenceman Casey Black is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week with six points (2G, 4A) in three consecutive wins for the Eagles.

Black (Calgary, AB) opened the week with the game winner and an assist in a 4-2 decision over the visiting Lloydminster Bobcats.  He was also awarded as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game.  The 2005-born veteran blueliner scored a goal and two assists in a 10-4 win versus the Olds Grizzlys on February 14th then added another assist on February 15th in a 4-3 win over the Drumheller Dragons.

This is the third Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week award for Black since rejoining the Eagles for a third season in late November 2024.

Black and the Canmore Eagles are first in the Viterra AJHL South Division and have clinched a playoff spot with six games remaining.
