AJHL Announces Bunge Salute to Service Award Recipients
The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and Bunge are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2025-26 Salute to Service Awards, which recognize individuals for their service and commitment to the AJHL. This year’s recipients were nominated by their respective team for long-standing volunteerism that has spanned over 25 years.
The Bunge Salute to Service award winner for the AJHL North Division is Steve Wojcik of the Bonnyville Pontiacs. Wojcik has served as the Pontiacs Director of Off-Ice Officials for 25 seasons and is a respected member of the organization. Through his role with the team, Steve values being part of a community organization and enjoys the comradery and friendships he makes each season. Over the years his favourite players to watch have been Mark Letestu, Justin Fontaine, Cale Makar and Jon Kalinski!
“Steve has been a lifeline for the Pontiacs organization for over two decades and continues to help service his community team today,” said Pontiacs Vice President Neil Langridge. “Steve is a crucial part of our success on and off the ice. Without Steve and people like Steve junior hockey would not survive in smaller rural Alberta communities.”
Sandra Jacobson of the Drayton Valley Thunder has been selected as the Bunge Salute to Service award winner for the AJHL South Division. Sandra finds fulfillment in volunteering through her interaction with the fans and the organization. She especially enjoys games against the visiting Fort McMurray Oil Barons and Devon Xtreme!
“Sandra has been a dedicated 50/50 volunteer with the Drayton Valley Thunder since the team’s inaugural season in 1998. Her commitment and the countless hours she has given to the organization are truly unmatched,” said Thunder Marketing Manager Leah Emmett. “Sandra is always friendly, positive and ready to sell, and she has become a familiar and well-loved face around the arena. We are incredibly grateful for her years of hard work, dedication and unwavering support of the Thunder.”
Sandra and Steve will receive a commemorative plaque from the AJHL and Bunge in recognition of the award.
“Volunteers and billet families remain the backbone of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, giving their time, energy and passion to ensure a positive experience for our players, teams and communities,” said AJHL Commissioner Ryan Bartoshyk. “Their impact extends far beyond the rink, shaping the culture and success of our League in meaningful ways. We are proud to continue our partnership with Bunge in celebrating these remarkable individuals through the Salute to Service awards.”
