Lloydminster Bobcats Captain Caden Cabana is the Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week for November 6th – 12th, 2023. With five goals and seven points over three games last week, the 2003-born forward extended his point streak to 11 games and 21 points.
Caden Cabana led the Bobcats with a goal and two assists against his hometown Bonnyville Pontiacs on November 8th. He was recognized as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game in the narrow 4-3 loss. On November 11th, Caden scored two goals to once again earn the honour of Viterra AJHL Player of the Game in a 5-3 win over the visiting Okotoks Oilers. The second game of the double header versus Okotoks resulted in a three-point game for Cabana with two goals and an assist in a 7-6 loss on November 12th.
This is the second Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week award for Caden Cabana, who is tied for fifth in AJHL Scoring with 29 points (17G, 12A).
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Dominic Payne of the Sherwood Park Crusaders and teammate Ryan Zaremba is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week. Payne recorded six points (3G, 3A) in three games played, while Zaremba led all rookies with seven points (1G, 6A).
The Crusaders are on a four-game win streak following three victories last week. On November 8th, Sherwood Park dominated the Olds Grizzlys 11-1 with both Zaremba (2006) and Payne (2004) recording a goal and two assists. Payne would have the eventual game winner in the victory.
On November 10th, Ryan Zaremba (Edmonton, AB) led the way with four assists and the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game award as the Crusaders defeated the Drumheller Dragons 7-4. The first-year centre has already recorded eight multi-point games this season and is tied for second among AJHL Rookies with 22 points (3G, 19A).
Defenceman Dominic Payne (Vancouver, BC) also contributed to the November 10th win with his 21st assist on the season. On November 11th, Payne picked up his second game winning goal of the week and two points (1G, 1A) in a 3-2 win over the crosstown Spruce Grove Saints. He leads all AJHL defencemen with 28 points (6G, 22A).
Ryan Zaremba (University of Minnesota Duluth) and Dominic Payne (Canisius College) were both previously selected as AJHL Weekly Award Winners for the week of October 16th-22nd, 2023. The Crusaders are currently second overall in the Canalta Hotel AJHL Standings with a record of 18-5-0.
