The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the period of December 11th – 20th, 2017 is Kyler Kupka of the Camrose Kodiaks. The second year Kodiak forward scored 8 points (5 goals, 3 assists) in four games and picked up two Viterra Star of the Game selections to close out 2017.
Kyler Kupka recorded a 4-point game, including his second hat trick of the season, on December 12th in a 6-5 loss to the Olds Grizzlys. On December 17th, he scored a goal and an assist in a 6-0 shutout win over the Grande Prairie Storm. Kupka had another 2-point night (1 goal, 1 assist) on December 20th in 4-3 shootout loss versus the Calgary Canucks. The 18 year-old was awarded as the Viterra Star of the Game on both December 12th and 20th.
Kupka (Camrose, AB) is second in team scoring with 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists). He is committed to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks of the NCAA.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Canmore Eagles defenceman Travis Verveda. The AJHL veteran scored 6 assists in 3 wins for the Eagles in the final three days before the holiday break.
Travis Verveda (Alix, AB) had two assists in a 6-1 win over the Grande Prairie Storm on December 15th, another assist in a 4-2 win over the Lloydminster Bobcats on December 16th, and 3 assists in a 6-4 win versus Drumheller on December 17th. Verveda assisted on the game winning goal in two of the three victories.
Verveda, 20, is in his third AJHL season. He has already surpassed his career high single season point total with 25 points (5 goals, 20 assists) and is 6th in scoring among all AJHL defencemen. His current three-game point streak coincides with a three-game win streak for the Eagles.
