The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week is Grande Prairie Storm forward Connor Blake. Over five games, from December 29th – January 7th, Blake scored 10 points (6 goals, 4 assists) and was selected as the Viterra Star of the Game twice.
Connor Blake, 19, is on a six-game point streak, five-game goal streak, and has recorded points in 10 of his last 11 games. He will begin 2018 tied for 6th overall in the AJHL scoring race with 21 goals, 23 assists and 44 points.
Blake (Calgary, AB) closed out 2017 as the Viterra Star of the Game in two consecutive one-goal losses to the Spruce Grove Saints on December 29th and 30th. On Friday, January 5th, he would score the eventual game winner in a 5-1 victory over the Saints. His week also included a 2-point game on January 4th as the Storm won 6-4 over the Drayton Valley Thunder, and 2 points in a 6-4 loss to the Sherwood Park Crusaders on January 6th.
Fort McMurray Oil Barons goaltender Chris Curr is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week. Curr opened 2018 with a 3-0 record for the North Division leading Oil Barons from December 30th – January 7th.
In three games versus North Division opponents, Curr stopped 90 of 95 shots and posted a 1.67 GAA. His win streak began on December 30th with a 3-2 win over Sherwood Park, then continued into the new year with a 6-2 victory against the Bonnyville Pontiacs on January 5th. The birthday boy wrapped up the weekend with a 5-1 win over Sherwood Park and picked up the Viterra Star of the Game award on Sunday, January 7th.
Chris Curr (St Albert, AB) currently leads all AJHL netminders with a .939 SV% and is second overall with a 1.94 GAA.
