The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week award belongs to the Spruce Grove Saints for a second consecutive week. Saints forward Parker Saretsky has earned the honour with a 9 point week – 2 goals and 7 assists in three games during the week of January 15th – 21st.
In a mid-week game versus the Bonnyville Pontiacs on Wednesday, January 17th, Parker recorded 3 assists in a 6-2 victory. He was selected as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game on Friday night with 2 goals and 3 assists in a 7-3 win over the Drayton Valley Thunder. The following night, the Saints and Thunder would play to a 5-4 overtime win for the Saints. Saretsky assisted on the OT winner and picked up his ninth point of the week.
Parker Saretsky (Wainwright, AB) is in his second season with the Saints. The 18 year-old forward is second in team scoring with 12 goals, 30 assists and 42 points. He is 6th overall in assists among all AJHL scorers.
The Saints are 1st overall in the Viterra AJHL North Division with 15 regular season games remaining. Spruce Grove has compiled a five game win streak and are 9-1-0 in the last 10 games.
Goaltender Xavier Potvin of the Whitecourt Wolverines is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week. Potvin was 2-0 last week and recorded his league-leading fourth shutout victory for the Wolverines.
Potvin, 20, allowed just one goal in two games last week, turning away 44 of 45 shots on goal in games against the North Division rivals – the Drayton Valley Thunder and Lloydminster Bobcats. His shutout versus the Bobcats was his fourth of the year, and left him with a stingy .5 GAA and .978 SV% on the week.
Xavier is 21-9-4 in his first AJHL season, with a 2.10 GAA and .923 SV%. He is second overall in the area of GAA and third in Save Percentage as compared to all AJHL goaltenders. This is Xavier’s second Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week award after first receiving it in October 2017.
The Whitecourt Wolverines are third in the Viterra AJHL North Division Standings and have won their last three straight games.
