The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week and Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week are both members of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. Forward Will Conley and defenceman Curtis Roach have captured the weekly honours for the period of February 5th – 11th, 2018.
Conley (Strathmore, AB) scored 5 goals and 9 points in three Oil Barons victories last week, to extend his active point streak to 7 games and 17 points. He is currently tied for second in the AJHL Scoring Race with 68 points (42G, 26A), and is averaging 1.4 points per game heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
Will Conley was selected as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game on February 9th in a 5-4 win over the Camrose Kodiaks. Conley scored two goals including the OT winner. He was awarded as the Star of the Game for a second time two just days later in an 8-3 victory against the Sherwood Park Crusaders where he recorded a 5-point game (2G, 3A).
The 20 year-old AJHL veteran has committed to the Holy Cross Crusaders of the NCAA I for the 2018-2019 season. This is Conley’s second Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week award for the 2017-2108 season.
Defenceman Curtis Roach was selected as the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week last week and now earns the honour of the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week. Curtis added 2 goals and 4 assists to aid the Oil Barons in three consecutive wins and extend the team’s winning streak to seven games.
Roach, 20, has moved to 4th in scoring among all AJHL defencemen, 2nd in the North Division behind teammate Tanner Miller, with 38 points (7 goals, 31 assists). He is averaging 1.2 points per game, tied for the highest points per game average of all AJHL defencemen.
The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are second in the Viterra AJHL North Division Standings, just two points back of the Spruce Grove Saints, with eight regular season games remaining.
