The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week is 2017-2018 AJHL MVP and Top Scorer Chris Van Os-Shaw of the Spruce Grove Saints. Van Os-Shaw recorded 3 goals and 4 assists in two games to conclude his final two games of the regular season, and picked up the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game award in both victories for the Saints.
He opened the scoring in both games; his opening goal on February 28th versus the Grande Prairie Storm was #50. Van Os-Shaw reached and surpassed the 50-goal mark in his final week of the regular season, a benchmark that was last set by Mark Letestu (Bonnyville Pontiacs / Columbus Blue Jackets) in 2005-2006.
This is the second Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week Award for Chris Van Os-Shaw (January 8-14, 2018).
Chris Van Os-Shaw, 20, led the league in goals (51), points (97), average points per game (1.6) and with 8 game winning goals. He has committed to the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves of the NCAA Division I.
The final Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Riley Morris of the Okotoks Oilers, who was recently named the 2017-2018 Top Goaltender for the AJHL.
Morris finished the regular season with 18 consecutive wins. He was a perfect 3-0 in the final week of play, turning away 64 of 68 shots in the three Oiler victories versus South Division opponents – the Canmore Eagles and Camrose Kodiaks. This is Riley’s second Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week award (November 13-19, 2017).
Morris posted a regular season record of 31-2-2 and recorded 4 shutouts with a 1.98 GAA. The 21 year-old from Calgary, AB is in his fourth AJHL season as a member of the Okotoks Oilers. In his final season, he has set new franchise records for Most Career Shutouts (10), Most Game Played by a Goaltender (141) and Most Career Wins (88).
Oilers goaltenders Riley Morris and Ben Howard were awarded as the recipients of the Reebok / CCM Top Team Goaltenders Award following Sunday’s game in Okotoks.
