Canmore Eagles forward Colton Young is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the week of October 2nd – 8th, 2017. With two hat tricks and 9 points in three games last week, Young led the AJHL in scoring and extended the Eagles winning streak to 4 games.
Colton Young, 19, picked up two Viterra Star of the Game Awards as he recorded a hat trick and 4-point game on two consecutive nights against his hometown’s teams. On October 6th, Young led the Eagles to a 6-5 victory over the Calgary Mustangs with 4 points (3 goals, 1 assist). Canmore then shutout the Calgary Canucks 7-0 on October 7th with another 4-point performance (3 goals, 1 assist) by Young. He opened the 9-point week with an assist in a 5-4 win over the Canucks on October 3rd.
Colton leads the Eagles in scoring with 8 goals, 5 assists and 13 points through eight games. He is enjoying a 4-game point streak totaling 11 points, and is in the Top 20 of the AJHL Scoring Race.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Spruce Grove Saints goaltender Nolan Kent. The 19 year-old was 2-0 in games versus North Division rivals last week and posted a 1.5 GAA.
Kent recorded a 6-2 win over the Lloydminster Bobcats on October 4th, turning away 23 of 25 shots. On October 6th, he posted his second victory of the week with a 2-1 win over the division leading Fort McMurray Oil Barons, allowing just one goal on 30 shots.
Nolan Kent (Chestermere, AB) leads all AJHL goaltenders with a 1.56 GAA and .941 SV%. The second year Saints netminder holds a record of 6-1 in his first 7 games of the 2017-2018 AJHL regular season.
