The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week and the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week both belong to the Brooks Bandits after winning three straight games from October 23rd-30th. Defenceman Dennis Cesana is the Player of the Week for his 7-point performance over three games, while goaltender Mitch Benson posted a 3-0 record for the Bandits as the team extended its win streak to 5 games.
Cesana (Providence, RI) scored 1 goal and 6 assists last week, extending his current point streak to 7 games and 13 points. The 19 year-old currently leads all AJHL Defencemen in scoring with 24 points (5 goals, 19 assists) and is fifth in the AJHL Scoring Race. Dennis has the second most assists among all AJHL players (19).
Dennis Cesana was also recognized as the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week in September 2017.
On October 25th, Dennis Cesana scored 1 goal and 3 assists against the Lloydminster Bobcats in a 7-0 shutout victory for Mitch Benson and the Bandits. Benson (Windsor, ON) was named the Viterra Star of the Game for stopping all 22 shots on goal to record his second shutout of the season and is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week.
The Bandits earned four points in a home and home series with Drumheller on October 27th and 28th. Cesana aided the victories with 3 assists. Benson recorded a 4-3 win in game one and a 5-2 win in the second game to extend his win streak to 5 consecutive games. Over three games last week, Benson stopped 63 of 68 shots and posted a 1.67 GAA.
Mitchel Benson, 19, has a 2.53 GAA and 13-4-1 record in the regular season. He is among the AJHL Top 10 in the areas of GAA (2.53), fewest losses (4), most wins (13), and most shutouts (2).
Cesana and Benson are both members of the 2017 AJHL Champion Brooks Bandits. Cesana is committed to Michigan State of the NCAA Division I.
