Whitecourt Wolverines forward Charles-Olivier Ouimet is the Canalta Hotels Player of the Week following an exciting Showcase Weekend in the AJHL. Ouimet scored 7 points (3G, 4A) in three games last week, including 4 points in front of the scouting community gathered at the AJHL Showcase.
The 20 year-old leads the Wolverines in scoring with 10 points (4G, 6A) and extended his point streak to six games with a current average of 1.4 points per game.
Charles-Olivier (Blainville, QC) opened the scoring in a 3-1 win over Grande Prairie to start the week on Tuesday, September 25th. He would end the game with 2 goals and an assist on the game winning goal; earning him the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game Award. The Wolverines picked up two points at the AJHL Showcase with a 4-2 win over the South Division’s Okotoks Oilers and a 5-2 loss to the Brooks Bandits. Ouimet collected 1 goal and 3 assists in the interlock matchups.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Calgary Mustangs goaltender Ashton Abel. The 18 year-old posted a 2-0 record last week, which included both a shutout and a shootout win.
Abel (Fort McMurray, AB) stole a 3-2 shootout win from the Calgary Canucks on September 24th, stopping 31 of 33 shots from his city rivals. The second-year Mustangs netminder then recorded a shutout at the AJHL Showcase by shutting down the defending champion Spruce Grove Saints in a 1-0 victory.
The Calgary Mustangs are off to fierce start with a 6-1 record and have compiled a 3-game win streak after taking home 4 points from the AJHL Showcase. The CJHL Top 20 Weekly Rankings for Monday, October 1st list the Mustangs at #18 in the country.
