Canalta Hotels Player of the Week & AB Ford Dealers Defensive Player of the Week

Forward Carter Savoie of the Sherwood Park Crusaders is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the second time in the 2018-2019 season.  The 16 year-old rookie first earned the honours on October 29th after recording a 6-point week, and picks it up again today following a 9-point week from November 5th – 11th.

Savoie and the Crusaders traveled to Fort McMurray for a mid-week double header on November 6th & 7th.  Savoie had an assist on the game winning goal in a 4-3 OT win for Sherwood Park in game one.  Carter scored 2 goals and another assist the next night to earn the Viterra Star of the Game Award, but his Crusaders fell 8-4 to Fort McMurray.

On Friday night, Savoie scored a goal and 2 assists in a 6-2 win over the Lloydminster Bobcats.  He closed the weekend with 2 assists in a dramatic 3-2 shootout win against the Spruce Grove Saints, and scored as the first shooter in the shootout.  The Crusaders ended the weekend in first place in the Vietrra AJHL North Division standings with a record of 17-4-2.

Carter Savoie (St Albert, AB) leads the Crusaders in scoring and is second in the AJHL Scoring Race with 34 points (16G, 18A), an average of 1.5 points per game.   He is committed to the University of Denver in the NCAA Division I.

The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is goaltender Luke Lush of the Drayton Valley Thunder.  Lush recorded three consecutive wins to kick off a three game winning streak for the Thunder.

Throughout three games last week, Lush turned away 81 of 84 shots and posted a 1.0 GAA and .964 Save Percentage.  The week started with a 4-0 shutout win in Olds as Lush stopped all 19 shots on goal.  He would allow only one goal on Saturday night as the Thunder defeated Okotoks 2-1.  The Thunder concluded their South Division double header with a 5-2 win versus Canmore on Sunday as Lush allowed just 2 goals on 40 shots.
