The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week is newly acquired Storm forward Noah Corson. In three games, Corson scored 5 goals and 4 assists and picked up two Viterra AJHL Star of the Game awards.
Noah Corson, 20, was acquired at the December 1st roster deadline from the QJHL, and since arriving has recorded 6 goals and 7 assists in just six games.
The Storm suffered a 4-1 loss to the Oil Barons in their first game back following the Holiday Break, with Corson recording an assist on the only Grande Prairie goal of the game. On January 4th, the Storm defeated the Lloydminster Bobcats 7-6 in a comeback victory in which Noah scored a hat trick and added an assist on the game tying goal. The following night, he would accumulate another four-point game with 2 goals and 2 assists as Grande Prairie took a 6-2 win from the Bobcats. Noah Corson was selected as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game in both victories for the Storm.
Grande Prairie is 6-4-0 in the last ten games and are 5th in the Viterra AJHL North Division standings.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Fort McMurray Oil Barons defenceman Taner Miller. The MOB captain scored 2 goals and 5 assists in five games played since returning from the Holiday Break.
Miller recorded points in four of the five games played from December 28th – January 7th. He added 2 assists in a 4-1 win over Whitecourt on December 28th, then repeated the same performance with 2 assists in a second consecutive 4-1 win over the Wolverines the following night. On December 30th, the Oil Barons put up a third 4-1 win, this time versus Grande Prairie, and Miller scored his seventh goal of the season.
January 4th brought a 6-3 loss for the Oil Barons against the Calgary Mustangs, but on January 5th, Tanner helped the Oil Barons reverse the scoreboard in a 6-3 win over Olds with a goal and an assist.
The 20 year-old from Lethbridge, AB is 4th among all AJHL defencemen in scoring with 34 points (8G, 26A). Miller was also the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2018-2019 regular season.
Fort McMurray is fourth in the Viterra AJHL North Division standings and 4-1 since the Holidays.
