The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week is Grande Prairie Storm forward Zachary Okabe.   With 8 points (4G, 4A) in three games last week, and a 4-game point streak, Okabe took the lead in team scoring with 51 points.

Okabe, 18, put together two 3-point games last week.  The first game of the week saw the Storm surge ahead to a 10-3 win over Whitecourt on Tuesday night, with Okabe recording 2 assists and the game winning goal.  On Friday, Okabe picked up the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game Award in an 8-4 loss to the Sherwood Park Crusaders after scoring 2 goals and an assist in a comeback effort.  The week ended with a 4-3 overtime loss versus Fort McMurray, however, Zachary kept his point streak alive with a goal and an assist in the game.

Zachary Okabe (Okotoks, AB) is averaging one point per game with 27 goals and 24 assists in 50 regular season games.  He leads the AJHL in powerplay goals with 13.  The NHL Draft Prospect was ranked at #201 in the NHL Central Scouting Midterm Rankings in January.  Okabe is committed to St Cloud State of the NCAA.

The Grande Prairie Storm are currently 5th in the Viterra AJHL North Division and have clinched a spot in the 2019 Inter Pipeline AJHL Playoffs.

The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Brandon Scanlin of the Brooks Bandits.  The second year Bandit extended his active point streak to five games with 5 points in three games last week.

Scanlin, 19, pushed the Bandits to a 10-6 win on Tuesday night with the winning goal in a 10-6 victory over Canmore.  Friday night’s 9-1 triumph over Olds resulted in another 3 assists for Scanlin.  He would close the week with another assist in a 4-2 win over Drumheller – the 22nd consecutive win of the season for Brooks.

Brandon Scanlin is committed to Nebraska Omaha (NCAA Div I).  He has recorded 28 points (12G, 16A) in 29 games played to average a point per game this season.
