The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week is forward Logan Ganie of the Spruce Grove Saints. With 9 points (6G, 3A) in four games last week, Ganie helped push his Saints to a 7-game win streak.
Logan Ganie, 19, and the Saints shutout the Lloydminster Bobcats 4-0 on Family Day with Ganie picking up his first goal of the week. On Friday night, Logan scored the game winning goal on the powerplay to take a 3-2 decision over Drayton Valley. Saturday night was another match up against the Bobcats, rescheduled from a cancelation in December, and another dominant win by the Saints with a 7-1 final score. Ganie scored 2 goals, 3 assists, and was rewarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game in the victory. The week concluded with a 4-1 win over Lloydminster on Sunday, another 2-goal performance by Ganie, and another powerplay game winner.
Ganie (Irma, AB) is in his third full season with the Saints and ranks second in scoring with 50 points (23G, 27A).
The Saints are currently third in the North Division with three games remaining and a chance to climb up the standings in the final week of the regular season.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Fort McMurray Oil Barons goaltender Chris Curr. In three games played, Curr was a perfect 3-0, recording his fifth consecutive win and first shutout of the season.
Chris Curr (St. Albert, AB) turned away 23 of 24 shots on goal in a 4-1 victory over the division leading Pontiacs on Family Day Monday. He followed up the performance with a 4-0 shutout against Whitecourt on Friday night, stopping all 20 shots for the MOB. On Saturday, Curr would make 31 saves in a 6-1 win versus Whitecourt to wrap up the regular season series. Curr closed the week with a 0.67 GAA and .974 SV% after stopping 74 of 76 scoring attempts.
The second year Oil Baron goaltender ranks in the Top 10 among AJHL goaltenders for Save Percentage at .913% (6th) and Goals Against Average at 2.68 (9th). Curr and the Oil Barons extended their active win streak to five games and have locked up 4th place in the North Division Standings heading into the 2019 Inter Pipeline AJHL Playoffs.
