The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week is Daine Dubois of the Bonnyville Pontiacs. The 19 year-old centre enjoyed two 3-point games to wrap up the regular season with back to back wins for the Pontiacs.
Dubois scored two goals, including his 8th game winning goal of the season, and added an assist on Friday in an 8-1 win over the Lloydminster Bobcats. On Saturday night, Daine added 3 assists in an 8-2 victory versus Whitecourt and concluded the season with 19 goals, 32 assists and 51 points. His eight game winning goals ranks fourth among AJHL scorers.
Daine and the Pontiacs finished the season ranked second in the North Division and will meet the seventh placed Whitecourt Wolverines in the opening round of the 2019 Inter Pipeline AJHL Playoffs starting Thursday night.
Sherwood Park Crusaders goaltender Carter Gylander is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week. The 17 year-old rookie was 2-0, posting a shutout win and an overtime victory in the final week of the season.
Gylander (Beaumont, AB) recorded his third shutout of the season versus the Whitecourt Wolverines on Tuesday night. The Colgate University commit turned away 24 of 26 scoring attempts on Friday to defeat Fort McMurray 3-2 in overtime and record his fifth consecutive win.
Carter ended the season at 5th overall in both Goals Against Average (2.43) and Save Percentage (.915%).
The Crusaders have captured first place in the Viterra AJHL North Division to earn a first-round bye in the 2019 Inter Pipeline AJHL Playoffs.
