The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the final week of February 2016 is Riley Simpson of the Spruce Grove Saints. Simpson and the Saints recorded two consecutive wins to close out the month, with Simpson scoring 5 points (2G, 3A) in the victories.
Riley Simpson (Edmonton, AB) is 4th in team scoring with 20 goals, 29 assists and 49 points, and has set a new career high point total for his four seasons in a Saints uniform. The 19 year-old winger is averaging 1.0 points per game in the 2015-2016 regular season.
Simpson will make his third consecutive appearance in the AJHL Playoffs as a member of the Saints. Spruce Grove mhas clinched 1st overall in the AJHL Standings with 100 points and one regular season game remaining. They are guaranteed a first round bye in the 2016 Gas Drive AJHL Playoffs.
For the third time this season, Logan Drackett of the Calgary Canucks, has been selected as the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Goalie of the Week. Drackett went 2-0 over the weekend in two back to back wins over the Okotoks Oilers, including a shutout win. The 18 year-old rookie goaltender allowed just two goals and posted a .96 GAA.
Logan Drackett (Calgary, AB) is 7-2-1 in his last 10 starts. He has faced the 5th most shots on goal (1,293) and has recorded the 2nd highest save percentage (.920%) among all AJHL goaltenders this season.
This is the third Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Goalie of the Week recognition for Drackett. The first came on the week of December 7th – 13th, 2015 and the most recent for the week of February 1st – 7th, 2016.
The Calgary Canucks currently sit 6th in the Viterra AJHL South Division standings with 49 points and two games remaining. The Canucks have secured a playoff berth for the 2016 Gas Drive AJHL Playoffs.
