With 8 points in the opening two games of the 2019-20 AJHL regular season, Cody Laskosky of the Camrose Kodiaks has earned the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week honours.
Laskosky (New Norway, AB) led the Kodiaks to a 5-1 victory over the Olds Grizzlys to open the season on Friday night, recording a career high 5-point game with 4 goals and an assist. On Saturday, the 20 year-old forward added 2 goals and another assist in a 6-4 loss to the visiting Brooks Bandits. Cody was selected as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game for both performances.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is goaltender Matt Davis of the Spruce Grove Saints. Davis, 18, recorded wins in back to back games versus the Drayton Valley Thunder to kick off the new AJHL campaign.
Matt Davis (Calgary, AB) stopped 25 of 27 shots on goal Friday night and was perfect in the shootout to take a 3-2 win. He would allow just two goals again on Saturday, stopping 20 of 22 shots and repeating the win by a score of 3-2. Davis closed the weekend with a .918 save percentage and 1.92 GAA.
