Brooks Bandits captain Jakob Lee is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week. Lee led the AJHL in scoring through the week of November 4th ? 10th with 5 goals and 3 assists in three games played.
Jakob Lee was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game for the fourth time this season after recording a career high 7-point game in an 8-3 win versus Camrose on November 6th. Lee scored 4 goals, including the game winner, and added 3 assists. On November 9th, the Bandits would see a 22-game win streak come to an end at the hands of the Spruce Grove Saints. Lee recorded a goal as the Bandits fell just short in a 5-4 loss.
The loss puts an end to the team?s 55-game season-overlapping regular season win streak, with the team not having lost a regular season game since November 2018.
Lee is committed to Canisius College of the NCAA Division I for the 2020-21 season. The 20 year-old forward is 4th in AJHL scoring with 40 points (21G, 19A), and is averaging 1.7 points per game.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Okotoks Oilers goaltender Ashton Abel. The 20 year-old has yet to lose in regulation time and boasts a record of 15-0-1 after picking up two more wins last week.
Ashton backstopped the Oilers to a 4-3 win over the Olds Grizzlys on Friday night, followed up by 21 saves in a 7-2 victory over the Camrose Kodiaks on Saturday night. This is the second Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week award for Abel in less than a month.
Abel (Fort McMurray, AB) leads all AJHL goalies with a 1.58 GAA and .932 save percentage. This is his first season with the Oilers after spending the first two seasons of his AJHL career with the Calgary Mustangs.
The Oilers are enjoying a 6-game win streak and sit second in the Viterra AJHL South Division Standings at 18-2 behind the first placed Brooks Bandits at 23-1.
