Michael Clarke of the Grande Prairie Storm is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week with a 6 point performance in two games played during the week of January 9th – 15th.
Michael Clarke scored the game winning goal and added 3 assists in a 5-4 win as the Storm upset the Whitecourt Wolverines on January 11th. The Storm recorded a second straight win in a 5-1 victory over the Lloydminster Bobcats on January 13th with 2 goals from Clarke.
Clarke leads the team in scoring with 48 points (23G, 25A) and an average of 1.1 points per game. The 18 year-old from Medicine Hat, AB is 8th overall in the AJHL Scoring Race. This is Clarke’s third AJHL season, second with the Storm.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is JC Thivierge of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. The 19 year-old defenceman scored 3 goals and 5 points over the weekend and extended his point streak to 6 games and 10 points.
On Friday night, JC scored the game winning goal in a 3 point game over the Calgary Mustangs and was rewarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game. He followed up with a goal and an assist in a 5-4 OT win against the Calgary Canucks on Saturday night, including an assist on the game tying goal.
Thivierge (Welland, ON) is in his first AJHL season and ranks among the Top 5 AJHL defencemen in scoring. He is tied for 3rd in team scoring with 12 goals, 20 assists and 32 points.
The Oil Barons extended their winning streak to six games with back to back wins over the weekend. They sit one point back of the Wolverines for first place in the Viterra AJHL North Division with two games in hand.
