Sherwood Park Crusaders forward, Carter Savoie, is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week following the 2019 AJHL Showcase. The 17 year-old recorded 8 points (5G, 3A) in two Crusaders victories during the annual Showcase, including his first AJHL hat trick.
Carter scored 2 goals and 3 assists in the opening game of the weekend to push the Cru to a 6-3 win over the Drumheller Dragons. In game two of the Showcase, Savoie scored a hat tick, including the game winning goal in a 6-5 victory against the Okotoks Oilers. The Crusaders are now 7-0 to start the 2019-20 season.
Savoie (St Albert, AB) is second in League scoring with 17 points (9G, 8A). Teammate Arjun Atwal currently leads the AJHL scoring race with 18 points.
Carter Savoie was the 2018-19 AJHL and CJHL Rookie of the Year and is committed to the University of Denver in the NCAA (Division I).
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Bonnyville Pontiacs goaltender Easton Hesse. With two wins at the AJHL Showcase over the weekend, Hesse and the Pontiacs are now 5-1-1 to start the new season.
On Tuesday night, the Pontiacs defeated the Fort McMurray Oil Barons 7-4 and Hesse would pick up his first of three wins over the week. On Friday, the 19 year-old opened the Showcase with a 3-2 overtime win versus the host Camrose Kodiaks, stopping 34 of 36 shots on goal. Easton then allowed just one goal on 35 shots the following day in a 2-1 win over the Whitecourt Wolverines.
Hesse (Leduc, AB) holds a 2.08 GAA and .936 SV% to kick-off his second season with the Pontiacs.
