Olds Grizzlys forward Zafir Rawji is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week. During the week of October 21st ? 27th, Rawji scored 4 goals and 3 assists, including his first AJHL hat trick.
Rawji (Edmonton, AB) notched his first goal of the week in a 4-2 loss to the Camrose Kodiaks on October 22nd. The 18 year-old added another point with an assist in a 5-3 loss to Okotoks on Friday, then exploded for 5 points in a 7-1 victory over the Calgary Canucks on Saturday night. Zafir scored a hat trick and added 2 assists to earn the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game award.
Since being acquired from the Sherwood Park Crusaders via trade on October 1st, Rawji has recorded 15 points (6G, 9A) and leads the team in scoring with 16 points (6G, 10A).
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is defenceman Kabore Dunn of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. The 17 year-old rookie recorded 5 points (2G, 3A) in a busy four-game stretch for the MOB; the most points of all AJHL defencemen last week.
Dunn (Mill Bay, BC) opened the week with a goal and 2 assists to edge the Bonnyville Pontiacs 6-5 in a shootout and received the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game Award for his performance. The Oil Barons defeated the Lloydminster Bobcats in back to back games on the weekend with Dunn earning his 5th assist of the season. On Sunday, the Pontiacs would take revenge on the Oil Barons with a 4-1 win, however, Dunn would score the lone goal for Fort McMurray.
Dunn was identified on the NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch List released earlier this month. The list is Central Scouting’s compilation of top prospects from all the major development leagues throughout North America and Europe.
