CANMORE EAGLES WIN FIRST LEAGUE TITLE

For the first time in franchise history, the Canmore Eagles are AJHL Champions after capturing the Inter Pipeline Cup with a 4-1 series win over the Whitecourt Wolverines on Saturday night. The Eagles won game five of the series 2-1 at JDA Place in Whitecourt, AB in front of a sold-out crowd.

To reach the finals, Canmore defeated the defending champion Calgary Canucks in the opening round before sweeping the Drumheller Dragons to claim the Bunge AJHL South Division title. The Whitecourt Wolverines reached the league final as AJHL North Division champions after eliminating both the Fort McMurray Oil Barons and Grande Prairie Storm. This was the first league final appearance for the Canmore Eagles franchise.

Eagles goaltender Alexander Scheiwiller was presented with the 2026 AJHL Playoff MVP award by AJHL Vice-President Fran Gow in a post-game ceremony. Scheiwiller, who has committed to the Mount Royal University Cougars for the 2026-27 season, was also the recipient of the 2025-26 AJHL Top Goaltender award and a finalist for the 2025-26 AJHL MVP award.

When you have the success we had in the playoffs, you need everyone to step up and contribute, and that’s exactly what happened with our group,” said Eagles GM and Head Coach Andrew Milne. “A lot of players were deserving of Playoff MVP, however Alex Scheiwiller rose above. Throughout the playoffs, he brought consistency, leadership and a relentless compete level that helped push our team. He gave our group confidence every night, knowing he had our backs and could make a big save when we needed it most. In the biggest moments, Alex found a way to make a save that impacted the outcome of the game. His performance reflected everything we value in an Eagle.”

The Eagles finished the 2025-26 regular season at the top of the South Division with a 32-19-3-1 record. The team led the division in goals scored (209) and fewest goals against (170), while maintaining the third-best penalty kill in the AJHL at 77.9%.

Eagles General Manager Andrew Milne was a finalist for the 2025-26 AJHL Coach of the Year award.  In February 2026, Milne was recognized for his 1,000th game as an AJHL Head Coach, a career that began with the Eagles in 2008.
