Drayton Valley Thunder forward, Kadyn Chabot, is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Player of the Week. In two games from November 16th to 22nd, the 18-year-old scored 3 goals and 2 assists in consecutive Thunder victories.
Chabot (Cranbrook, BC) opened the scoring for Drayton Valley on November 20th and earned his second Viterra AJHL Star of the Game award of the season with a 4-point game (2G, 2A) in a lopsided 6-1 game versus the Sherwood Park Crusaders. Kadyn scored his third goal of the weekend on November 21st when the Thunder defeated the Crusaders 7-4.
Kadyn Chabot is in his third season with Drayton Valley and currently leads the team in scoring with 5 points after being held off the scoresheet in the opening two games of the season. Chabot played his 100th AJHL career game on November 14th, 2020 in Fort McMurray.
Thunder rookie, Mason Marcellus, has been named the Merit Contractors AJHL Rookie of the Week. The 18-year-old newcomer recorded a 4-point week with a goal and 3 assists in two Thunder wins.
Marcellus (Ottawa, ON) scored his first AJHL goal on November 20th then added two assists in the first of two wins over Sherwood Park on Friday and added another assist in Saturday?s victory. With 4 points, the Thunder forward is tied for second in team scoring behind teammate Kadyn Chabot.
The Alberta Junior Hockey League and Merit Contractors are pleased to recognize AJHL rookies with the newly created Merit Contractors AJHL Rookie of the Week award in the 2020-21 season.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Cade Mason of the Grande Prairie Storm. The Red Deer, AB defenceman posted 4 points in a weekend split with the Spruce Grove Saints and is tied for top spot in the Viterra AJHL North Division with 7 points (1G, 6A).
Mason, 19, added 2 assists on November 20th as the Storm fell 4-3 to the Saints in a shootout. On November 21st, he repeated his performance with 2 assists, including an assist on the game winner, as the Storm stole a 5-4 win from the Saints.
