Drayton Valley Thunder forward Kadyn Chabot is the Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week after scoring six times with two game winning goals in his final three games of the 2021-22 regular season.
Chabot led the Thunder to a 4-3 OT win over the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Family Day Monday with two goals, including the overtime winner, and was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game. Kadyn opened the scoring on February 24th as the Thunder went on to defeat the Lloydminster Bobcats 3-1. The following night, Chabot scored his first AJHL hat trick and his fifth game winning goal of the season in a 3-2 defeat of the Bobcats. He was then awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game for the ninth time in 2021-22.
The 20 year-old from Cranbrook, BC has spent the last four season with the Thunder. He led the team in regular season scoring with 65 points (33G, 32A) and was tied for 12th in the 2021-22 AJHL Scoring Race.
Drayton Valley (4th) will meet the Lloydminster Bobcats (5th) in Round One of the 2022 Inter Pipeline AJHL Playoffs starting on Friday, March 4th across the province.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is goaltender Logan Willcott of the Camrose Kodiaks. The rookie goalie closed out the regular season with two consecutive wins and a shutout.
Willcott (Leduc, AB) shut down the Olds Grizzlys on Family Day with a 32-save performance and a 7-0 final. The win marked Logan’s second shutout of the season. On February 23rd, the 18 year-old made 24 saves and recorded a 4-1 victory over the Blackfalds Bulldogs. Willcott was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game in both wins and has received the honour four times in 2021-22.
Willcott and the Kodiaks (3rd) host the Canmore Eagles (6th) in the opening games of the 2022 Inter Pipeline AJHL Playoffs on March 4th and 5th.
Brooks Bandits defenceman Zach Bookman is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Bookman set three League Records in his final games of the regular season and finished third overall in the AJHL Scoring Race with 102 points (21G, 81A).
On February 21st, Bookman recorded his second five-point game of the season with a goal and four assists in a 9-0 win versus the Canmore Eagles. He received his seventh Viterra AJHL Star of the Game award and set a new League Record for Most Points by an AJHL Defenceman. Bookman added two assists to his season total on February 25th when the Bandits defeated the Drumheller Dragons 7-6 in a high-scoring showdown of the South Division leaders.
Zach Bookman (Merrimack College) led all AJHL defencemen and rookies, setting new AJHL Records for Most Points by a Defenceman (102), Most Assists by a Defenceman (81) and Most Assists by a Rookie (81).
The Brooks Bandits captured the Dave Duchak Trophy as the 2021-22 AJHL Regular Season Champions for the fifth time in franchise history and have earned a bye in Round One of the 2022 AJHL Playoffs.
