Chase Clayton Commits to UBC

Brooks, Alberta – The Brooks Bandits are proud to announce that 1994 born Forward Chase Clayton has committed to play for the University of British Columbia.  Located in Vancouver, BC the “Thunderbirds” play in the CIS Canada West division under first year Head Coach Tyler Kuntz.  UBC has a rich history that combines top end academics with elite athletic programs.

Chase is from Abbotsford, BC and grew up playing minor hockey for the Abbotsford Hawks.  He was a first round draft pick of the Calgary Hitmen in 2009 and went on to play 4 seasons in the WHL before joining the Bandits in September of 2014 from the Saskatoon Blades.  Chase made an immediate impact centering the top line of Austin Plevy and Jared Cockrell along with dropping back to the point on the power play.  He currently sits second in team scoring with 20 goals and 36 assists for 56 points in 47 games along with 139 penalty minutes.

“I am extremely honoured and proud to be committing to the University of British Columbia,” said Clayton.  “The ability to be close to home, continue my hockey career and get a first class education if very exciting for my family and I.  When I chose Brooks as the organization to finish my Junior career with, I knew that my future plans would be well taken care of and I am thankful for everyone that has helped me pursue this opportunity with UBC.”

Head Coach/GM Ryan Papaioannou added, “Chase has been a welcomed addition to our program.  He came to us with a focused mindset and UBC was a school he identified early on that would be a great fit for him.  Chase has played hard every night and shown our younger players what it takes to be at the top of your game everyday.  He’s been everything we hoped that he would be and came to us with a tireless work ethic.  I am happy that Chase has an opportunity to continue his pursuit of a career in hockey while studying at a school like UBC.”

The Bandits Organization would like to congratulate Chase and his Family on his athletic and academic future.
