The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) and its 10 member Junior A leagues are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Kirk Lamb as the Chairman of the CJHL. Kirk Lamb is a Calgary based-lawyer with the firm of Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP who has an extensive hockey and professional background. Kirk is an alumnus of the CJHL, the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and is a graduate of Princeton University of the Ivy League.
“The CJHL is extremely excited with the election of Kirk Lamb as our new Chairman”, stated Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) Commissioner Marty Savoy. “The CJHL was looking for an individual who not only held the skill set to lead the League in the next stage of its evolution, but also required a person with passion for Junior A hockey. In Kirk we believe we have selected a Chairman that meets both these needs and will take the CJHL to a new level which will grow the business and development of Junior A hockey in Canada.”
Kirk Lamb attended Princeton University from 1997-2001 where he served as Team Captain for the Princeton Tigers of the NCAA. During his career with the Tigers he twice earned Academic All-Ivy League and East Coast Athletic Conference All-Academic honours and was also named to the All-Ivy League team on two occasions. Kirk graduated with Honours in Economics from Princeton University in 2001.
After completing his degree at Princeton University, Kirk Lamb continued his playing career with the Trenton Titans of the ECHL in 2001-2002. While a member of the Titans, Kirk was a Player Representative for the Professional Hockey Players Association (PHPA) during renegotiation of the collective bargaining agreement.
Kirk played his Junior A hockey for the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) during which time he captured the AJHL Scoring Title in the 1996-1997 season. Prior to joining the AJHL, Kirk was a member of the Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen in its inaugural season. Since 2002, Kirk has assisted the AJHL as Student Athlete Advisor, educating players and families on various athletic-academic options and the rules and regulations of the NCAA, Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). In addition, Kirk has served as Legal Counsel and Special Advisor to the AJHL, counseling the AJHL board and management on business, operational and legal matters.
“I was both humbled and honoured when my name was put forward for Chairman of the CJHL and it was with a great deal of excitement and sense of challenge that I accepted the position”, stated Chairman Kirk Lamb. “The CJHL will be a strong, independent and unified voice for the development of junior hockey in Canada. I look forward to working with CJHL members and partners of junior hockey across Canada and the United States.”
Kirk Lamb will begin his role immediately as the CJHL prepares for the 2011 RBC Cup National Junior A Championship in Camrose, Alberta from April 30th – May 8th, 2011. The position of Chairman has been vacant since the departure of Mr. Paul Lake in March 2010.
The Canadian Junior Hockey League is the national body of ten Junior A hockey leagues from across Canada and a proud member of Hockey Canada. The CJHL consists of the British Columbia Hockey League, Alberta Junior Hockey League, Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, Manitoba Junior Hockey League, Superior International Junior Hockey League, Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, Ontario Junior Hockey League, Central Hockey League, Ligue de Hockey Junior AAA du Quebec and the Maritime Junior A Hockey League.
