CJHL names its 3 Stars of the Month for January
Daneault; Richard; Gagnon earn monthly honours

TORONTO – The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) announced Friday that Ty Daneault, (F) Drumheller Dragons (AHL); Jack Richard, (F) Burlington Cougars (OJHL) and Nolan Gagnon, (D) Cornwall Colts (CCHL) have been named its 3 Stars of the Month for January.

1ST STAR: TY DANEAULT, (F) DRUMHELLER DRAGONS (AJHL) – An impressive opening month of 2023 saw the Merrimack College NCAA D-I commit pile up 21 points for Drumheller on 10 tallies and 11 helpers.

The 18-year-old Red Deer, Alta., product, who played for Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge back in December, etched his name on the game sheet in all but one outing in January that produced a hat trick and six multi-point affairs.

Daneault, who is two games, and as many points away from reaching the century mark in the AJHL career, was recently tabbed on NHL Central Scouting’s mid-term rankings list for the 2023 NHL Draft in Nashville, Tenn.

2ND STAR: JACK RICHARD, (F) BURLINGTON COUGARS (OJHL) – Competing at over a two point-per-game clip during the period, the 20-year-old forward from Stoney Creek, Ont., pumped in a dozen goals and helped set-up eight others in nine outings.

Four of his markers came on the power play while one was a game-winner. He also registered a pair of hat tricks, including a four-goal performance.

Leading the OJHL in goals scored so far this season with 42, in 43 match-ups, Richard will be off to attend school and play NCAA Division I men’s hockey at Niagara University in the fall.

3RD STAR: NOLAN GAGNON, (D) CORNWALL COLTS (CCHL) – Logging plenty of ice time for Cornwall last month, Gagnon also contributed at both ends of the ice for the Colts.

Averaging over 27 minutes on the back-end in January, the 19-year-old blueliner from Metcalfe, Ont., also produced at over a point-per-game rate with 12 in total through nine outings.

This included four goals, including a game-winner in overtime, and eight assists for the veteran of 101 CCHL regular season contests.
