The captain who led the Yale men’s hockey team to an ECAC and Ivy League Championship – and the greatest win in the history of the program – has signed a contract with the Providence Bruins. Ryan Donald ’10 (St. Albert, Alberta, Camrose Kodiaks AJHL), a defenseman for Bulldog teams that won more than 20 games the last two winters, agreed to a one-year deal with the American Hockey League team 86 miles Northeast of New Haven.
Donald, who was in the Bruins’ summer developmental camp last month, already has AHL experience. After an NCAA Northeast Regional 3-2 win over North Dakota followed by a wild (9-7) loss to eventual national champion Boston College, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound Eli skated a few games with the Springfield Falcons.
Yale’s defensive defenseman the last four seasons accumulated 123 games while tallying 24 points. Donald had two goals and eight points in 34 games during 2009-10.
