Dube Joins Bike For Breakfast Fundraiser Team

Lloydminster, AB – The Lloydminster Bobcats Head Coach & General Manager Nigel Dube is about to hit the road, literally. Bike for Breakfast will be riding the highway for over 1,040 kilometers from Lloydminster to Tuffnell, SK and back as part of the fundraising efforts for the breakfast programs in Lloydminster and surrounding area. The Bobcats bench boss will be one of nine riders on the team who will cycle day and night beginning Friday evening at 5PM from Lloydminster.

Bike For Breakfast started from scratch on May 1st with the original goal of raising $200,000 for the breakfast programs which include the Lloydminster Public School Division, Lloydminster Catholic School Division, Northwest School Division No. 203, Buffalo Trail School Division, and Onion Lake Cree Nation. With contributions from local businesses, individuals, and multiple fundraising events, Bike For Breakfast has currently raised $257,994 and is not done yet.

Dube has been excited about the opportunity to be a part of the team doing positive things for the Lloydminster and surrounding area and is looking forward to hitting the highway on his bike. “It has been an amazing opportunity to be a part of a team with a common goal of making sure the resources are there for kids to receive breakfast when they get to school. It also has been inspiring to get to know this group and how much they care about our community, getting to know them personally, and all working towards something so great!” said Dube. What started off as a thought has now turned into a community coming together bringing awareness to a need experiencing a reduction in government funding.

The group of riders includes Natalie Wiebe (wife of Bobcats Assistant Coach Kris Wiebe/LPSD Teacher), Shaun Newman (Shaun Newman Podcast), Becky Grassl (LCSD Teacher), Jim Taylor (Grinding Gears), Tracy Matthews (Endeavor Machining), Jamal Nekky (Wayside Dental), Ken Rutherford (Lakeland College), and Brad Hoffmann (4th Meridian).
The overwhelming support of Bike for Breakfast once again proves how the City of Lloydminster repeatedly answers the call. “It’s simply amazing, there have been businesses step up, individuals, events, it is truly remarkable. Looking at the donations page, they have come from Vancouver to Toronto, literally across Canada to help out in the Lloydminster area. This is why we are all so proud to call Lloydminster home!” finished Dube.

The team will take off on Friday evening with hopes to be back in Lloydminster by Sunday evening. Follow the journey on social media under Bike For Breakfast YLL to see updates along the way.
