Justin Dumais of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week. The 19 year-old forward scored a hat trick, including his third game winning goal of the season, in a four-point game on December 2nd versus the Bonnyville Pontiacs. The Oil Barons won 6-3 and Dumais was awarded as the Bunge AJHL Player of the Game.
Dumais leads the Oil Barons with 38 points (13G, 25A) in 26 games played and is third overall in the AJHL Scoring Race. The second-year Oil Baron has already surpassed his point total from last season when he recorded 32 points in 38 regular season games.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Canmore Eagles defenceman Reid Larson. The 20 year-old AJHL veteran recorded a three-point game (1G, 2A) in a 5-2 win over the division leading Camrose Kodiaks on December 5th. It was Larson’s second three-point game of the season for the Eagles.
Reid Larson (Calgary, AB) and the Eagles defence have allowed the least goals against in the Bunge AJHL South Division (78) as well as the highest goal differential (+8). Larson has 13 points (5G, 8A) in 24 games, contributing .5 points per game on average from the blueline.
Drayton Valley Thunder goaltender Archer Cooke is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week. The first-year goaltender posted a 2-0 record from December 1st -7th and currently leads the AJHL with a .928 save percentage.
On December 5th, Cooke (2007) earned the Bunge AJHL Player of the Game award with 31 saves in a 2-1 win over the visiting Lloydminster Bobcats. The Calgary, AB product then put on a 33-save performance to defeat the Drumheller Dragons in a 4-3 road win on December 7th.
