Five AJHL Players Identified on NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch List

Carter Savoie, Sherwood Park Crusaders, tops watch list among CJHLers

Five Alberta Junior Hockey League players were identified on the NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch List on Monday.  The list is Central Scouting’s compilation of top prospects from all the major development leagues throughout North America and Europe. It is updated throughout the season while scouts travel to evaluate the players ahead of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

The top ranked CJHL player is Forward Carter Savoie of the Sherwood Park Crusaders.  Savoie is listed with a ?B? rating, which indicates him as a potential second or third round draft selection candidate.  A total of 13 skaters from the Canadian Junior Hockey League earned a place on the list. 

The four additional AJHL players were listed with a ?C? rating, making them possible fourth, fifth or sixth round choices.

Ninety players have been selected directly from the Alberta Junior Hockey League in the NHL Entry Draft and 21 AJHL Alumni have went on to win the Stanley Cup. Brooks Bandits defenceman Cale Makar made history as the highest drafted AJHL Player when the Colorado Avalanche selected him 4th overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.  Joe Colborne of the Camrose Kodiaks previously held the record when the Boston Bruins selected him 16th overall in 2008.

The 2020 NHL Draft will be held June 26-27 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Que.
