Fradette, Savoie and Ceulemans Earn First Player of the Week Honours for 20/21

The Inter Pipeline AJHL Player of the Week following AJHL Opening Weekend is goaltender Evan Fradette of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.  The 19 year-old shut out the Drayton Valley Thunder in two consecutive games on home ice to start the season 2-0.

Fradette (St Albert, AB) stopped 24 shots on Friday night and turned away another 25 on Saturday to earn the shutouts and was awarded as Viterra AJHL Star of the Game in both victories.

The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Bandits blueliner Corson Ceulemans.  The University of Wisconsin (NCAA-Div I) commit recorded 4 points in the opening two games of the AJHL regular season. 

Ceulemans, 17, scored a goal and an assist in a 5-3 win over the Camrose Kodiaks on Friday and repeated the performance in a 7-5 defeat of the Kodiaks on Sunday.  The Beaumont, AB defenceman was recently identified as a potential first-round draft pick in NHL Central Scouting?s Players to Watch List. 

The Alberta Junior Hockey League and Merit Contractors are pleased to recognize AJHL rookies with the newly created Merit Contractors AJHL Rookie of the Week award.  The first recipient of the weekly honour is Sherwood Park Crusaders Centre Matt Savoie.  The 16 year-old recorded 4 points in two games to start the season and leads the team in scoring.

On November 13th, Savoie scored a goal and 2 assists to earn the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game award in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Spruce Grove Saints.  The St Albert, AB product scored his second of the season the following night as the Cru fell 4-2
