Park prints continue to be found all over the Memorial Cup champion Edmonton Oil Kings.
With five Sherwood Park players on the national championship team and the majority of the squad either attending high school at Sal Comp or billeting in the community, the Park has had a part to play since local standout Mark Pysyk was the Oil Kings first ever draft pick in 2007.
Those ties are even slightly stronger now that Steve Hamilton has moved from being an assistant coach to sliding into the head coach’s chair on Monday with the departure of Derek Laxdal to the AHL’s Texas Stars.
The son of former Edmonton Oiler captain and Sherwood Park Crusaders general manager Al Hamilton, Steven Hamilton played two stints with the Cru and served as the captain of the team.
He would rejoin the Crusaders as an assistant coach before moving up the ladder and eventually landing a spot as the head coach of the Spruce Grove Saints and then moving on to the Western Hockey League with the Oil Kings.
