Hayes Commits To Western Michigan

The Okotoks Oilers are pleased to announce that 20 year old defenseman Colten Hayes, has committed to the University of Western Michigan (Broncos) of the CCHA, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for the 2011 season.

Colten grew up in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, where he played his minor hockey before joining the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL for the 2008/09 season, before moving to the Langley Chiefs of the BCHL for the 2009/10 season. The Oilers acquired Colten from Langley on September 9th, 2010 where he has recorded 2 goals and 16 assists in 16 games, which places him 2nd for defenseman scoring in the AJHL.

Oilers GM/Head Coach James Poole states, “In Colten’s short tenure as an Oiler, he has become a integral part of our team on and off the ice. Colten is one of, if not, the most talented offensive defenseman in the League. It is gratifying to see a player and person of Colten’s quality get rewarded. The Okotoks Oilers are extremely proud of Colten’s accomplishments and wish him every success with his future scholastic and hockey plans.”

Colten is the first Oiler so far this season to commit to an NCAA Division 1 scholarship.
